So I picked up my new (used) 91 325ix from Ocean City, MD last night and drove it to PA. The car is no cream puff. It won't stay idle with out my foot on the gas pedal, and it lurches at low speeds in forth or fith gear, but man is she fast. If this had been an audi, I doubt the car would of even made it into DE. I just wanted to thank all of you for all of your advice. That car is an aircraft on wheels.
Has anyone had the same idle problems? she starts fine for a few seconds, then the computer kicks in to keep her going for another 30 sec's, then she stalls. There is also a slight smell of gasoline, like lawn mower. I checked the plugs (systematically pulled the wires in firing order) but there was no major sounding difference. I'm going to take her in today to get checked out, but I'd like to have an idea of what the problem is so I don't get ripped off. I have this feeling that the idle and the lurching are the same problem.

Sun, June 18, 2006 - 9:36 AMCould be fuel related, check the fuel filter. If it has been sitting for a while, it may just need driven. Try injector cleaner first. Keep digging, inspect every part of it.
New parts are always good. New wires and plugs. Look under the distributor cap and check out the state of the rotor. If it is dull and tarnished, a little sandpaper till it is shiny. Look inside the cap itself and see what the state of the center post is like. Push on it, it should be spring loaded and non-tarnished.
